I suspect this is more of a rhetorical question than an honest one, but for the record:
The Parthenon is there for the same reason the Houston Oilers were renamed the Titans upon moving to Tennessee. Nashville has been known for some time as the "Athens of the South". (It was originally the "Athens of the West", but that apparently never stuck--especially as the nation expanded farther west in a literal sense.)
