Big cargo plane at airport

Postby crudos » Fri Jun 17, 2011 9:14 am

Think there is a Antonov An-124 parked at the airport. Seen it there once before. Anybody know what is up with that? Thing is huge, makes the Fedex planes parked near it look like toys. Also folks should check out the B-17 Flying Fortress that is town for the weekend.

It's getting close to the annual Oshkosh AirVenture show. Maybe that has something to do with it.

Nah--probably ferrying in bricks of $100 bills from the Koch brothers for the upcoming election.

Where can people see the Flying Fortress?

A legendary aircraft, and good WWII history lesson for kids, too.

Yesterday morning about this time you could have looked up from my backyard. Man, those engines have an impressive roar!

It'll be taking off at 12:30 today, and probably other times, too - I just know someone who bought a ticket for 12:30.

45 minute rides for about $400.

We might be neighbors. I missed this one but I'm pretty good at identifying the different planes from the sound in the house. When the walls vibrate I know it's one of the huge cargo planes. Or a tornado.

That same plane was there about a week ago as well.

Oshkosh EAA isn't until July 25-31. Why are EAA planes in Madison now? Is it a non-Oshkosh show they are on there way to?

Ooh, engine noises. Love 'em.

On my bike yesterday I came upon a guy driving what might have been a 1969 Buick Riviera, all tuned. I actually made some excuse to stop so I could just listen to that thing run. I saw it parked on the east side today, so you might get to see it too. Solid black and just beautiful.

If those planes went over you guys' houses, they went over mine. I'll be listening.

Special summertime treats.

I had a 73 Riviera boattail for a few years in the 90's and I loved that car. Hell on gas of course but 90 mph felt like you were floating on a cloud. But it was just a weekend car, storage was a problem and those gigantic doors were starting to sag, so I passed it on to the next sucker.

I'm also an admirer of that ice-blue Monte Carlo I see in the neighborhood.

I saw the four engine jet come in for a landing Thursday. "What is that?" I says to myself, "It's not a 747".

Secret Russian-Obama hardware, that's what's inside that thing.

Right after I wrote that, the plane went over the east bike path just as I was rounding the corner by the Goodman center. Some people came out on their porch going "what was THAT?" It was about 5 pm. You just can't miss the sound it makes, and it goes slow enough so you can get a good look at it.
