Trolley service to Elmside began October 1, 1892. (Five years before west side service)
Frederick and Wilhelmine Schenk opened store 1893.

The second old guard place to leave lately. The Labor Hall moved not long ago. That leaves Flagstad Flowers and Block cleaners as the two oldest in my memory. The fishing shop has been around awhile but not like those other places. Not sure how busy he is since I've seen him sitting on the sidewalk out front, sleeping, a couple of times.

I'm a little surprised that the author of the article never mentioned the words "Schenk's Corners."

I don't think too many people call it that any more.

Hey, he still has a neighborhood and elementary school named after him. Huegel has a school too.
