What happened to the Argus? when did it close? Why? I see it is listed for sale on Craigslist, anyone know why?

Okay, maybe I'm wrong. I saw a restaurant/bar for sale sign on the building wall (facing the road)as I drove bye. Then I found this:

http://madison.craigslist.org/bfs/2264975406.html

for a bar "downtown" for sale. One one of the ads, it says east main street. What place is it?

Could still be the Argus, doesn't say in the ads that the place is closed....

Is Casbah still open? I can't remember if they stayed open after the owner went to prison.

I used to live near there, until a couple years ago. Walked by there daily. Only went in twice. Seemed like a happy hour luncheon kind of place. They changed owners or management about three years ago. I wonder what's up?

Among the licenses listed in that craigslist ad include one for "tobacco" ... could this be the Maduro? Although it mentions "restaurant" (does Maduro serve food?) so maybe it could be Casbah. But I think Casbah only allows hookah smoking outside, not inside (not sure) so I don't know why they'd need a "tobacco" license.

that sign has been there for over a year now i think it was originally for the subway space that became la mestiza. if any of those places were going out of business it would have to be kasbah. i never see anyone in there plus the owner is in jail...

"My sources" tell me that it's definitely La Mestiza closing down. I, too, wonder what a tobacco license means in this context. I'm assuming that means they can sell tobacco products?

Edit: looking at it again, I can't imagine that La Mestiza is 3600 square ft, and only Casbah, with its multiple floors, could be that large. However, that doesn't necessarily mean La Mestiza isn't also closing...

It's Casbah...the buildings are connected and owned by the same person..the wall on Argus is used for visibility....
