Big Bay Brewing

Postby Henry Vilas » Mon Dec 27, 2010 12:58 pm

A friend brought over the Boatilla amber ale from Big Bay Brewing. I usually like my ales a little more hoppy, but this one was very tasty. I see they will be at the Alliant Center beer and cheese fest.

I grew up in Whitefish Bay, and the village has a park/beach on Big Bay, close to my family home. When I googled the brewery, it was obvious they were named for that beach. They are located on Oakland in Shorewood, very close to the border with WfB. It's good to know a brewery is so close to my childhood home. My banker brother (who works for M&I,) still lives in the village and can now drown his sorrows with a good, local beer.

Some credit where credit is due: Isthmus Beer and Cheese Fest (at the Alliant Center).

I haven't tried the amber but I did pick up a sixer of the Wavehopper Kolsch. It is one of the better Kolsch beers I've had and it makes an excellent sessionable follow-up to some of the heavier winter brews.

Big Bay does not have a northside brewery. They bought a timeshare at Milwaukee Brewing Co down in the 3rd ward.

Trixie's Liquor (formerly Liquor Baron) has them in stock. They are located at 2929 East Washington Ave. Hope this helps.

Drinkslinger living up to his/her name.

Most area Copps have Big Bay beers, too. It's becoming fairly ubiquitous.
