Nostranos

Postby aimless » Thu Dec 16, 2010 7:49 pm

On a cold and snowy evening, the night before Thanksgiving, I ventured out with my sister and her husband from NYC and my neighbors to the lovely restaurant that filled the space created when Peppino's closed. In general it was a very good dinner. We were disppointed that their drink menu had changed. We also were not happy with the fact that bread was served at a price. I know that is the new wave but frankly, I don't like it. We shared the charcuterie plate and the Farm Egg Salad. Both were delicious. Egg yolk running over almost any other food is yummy and this was no exception. We had a variety of entrees including short ribs, grilled sturgeon, seafood brodetto (tomato based fish stew), the pork shoulder and the pear risotto. The risotto was slightly undercooked and had a chalky feel. The sturgeon was nothing to write home about. But the short ribs, the seafood stew and the pork were outstanding. The service was fair and not very friendly. The ambience was warm and inviting. I would be happy to return for another meal.

Okay, two nitpicks.

1) viewtopic.php?f=2&t=50656

2) Though the title of this thread is missing an apostrophe, is there any reflex error more grating than adding " 's " to the end of a restaurant name that doesn't include or require it?

No one at Nostrano is actually named "Nostrano." Same with Brocach, Claddagh, Bellini, or any number of other one-word restaurants that often get the faux-possessive treatment.

It's not just you, aimless, so please don't take my venting personally. And with that, a topical comment.

Plus the human stomach is a far more human way to kill salmonella than cooking.

I believe Persia meant to say ".. a far more humane way to kill salmonella." A more human way to kill usually involves guns. Lots and lots of guns.

And egg yolk gravy is the best, ever. Still remember the first time I had a hamburger with an egg on it. Simple and delicious.

I'm officially adding an 's' to the end of all restaurant names, even those that already have it.

Sardine's
Oakcrest's
Weary Traveler's
Jac's's
Mickies's
Harmony's

Jac's's

It's JACS (the initials of the owners kids), so you have an error in you intentional misunderstanding. Just to pick a nit. :)

Actually, it's jacs, all lower-case.

Just to continue the picking of nits.

I'll be dining at Nostrano tomorrow night. I may start a new thread because, nits aside, that "s" in the OP is giving me agita.
