Google High-Speed Internet Project

Postby Beaver » Tue Feb 16, 2010 4:18 pm

It sounds like it would be great if Madison is selected as a city to test Google's high speed internet. I wonder what rates they would charge?

It sure would be a boon to my illegal movie and music downloading operation.

Here is the Madison City Channel coverage of the meeting at Olbrich Gardens last night. It will play on Madison City Channel (Charter Analog 98, Charter Digital 994, or AT&T U-verse 99) on Monday, March 15 at 7:30PM, Tuesday, March 16 at 12:30PM, and Wednesday, March 17 at 9:30PM.

And here is a high-speed fiber-to-the-home network presentation from 2008.

You'll need RealPlayer (or a media player that can play RealMedia files) to view the online content.

Wow. Talk about BUZZZZ. All across the USA. Everyone is squawking, just a trying to lay this egg. If I were Gaggle, this contest wouldn't end until the last goose was cooked. But the contest is over. Just like the nose on my the end of my face, the winner has already been picked.

Google fiber

Postby Beaver » Wed Feb 19, 2014 9:25 pm

Google Fiber is expanding to 34 new cities but still none in WI. They are all in the South or West except KC.

http://www.theverge.com/2014/2/19/54263 ... nal-cities

Google says up to 34 cities in all could potentially receive Fiber service. The nine metro areas where those cities are located include:

Atlanta, Georgia
Charlotte, North Carolina
Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina
Nashville, Tennessee
Phoenix, Arizona
Portland, Oregon
Salt Lake City, Utah
San Antonio, Texas
San Jose, California

Cities need to complete certain things to be ready for Google fiber consideration.

https://fiber.google.com/newcities/

Scroll down to "What happens next?"

After we complete these steps, we hope to announce the next round of cities who’ll be getting Google Fiber by the end of 2014. While we’d love to bring Fiber to every one of these cities, it might not work out for everyone. Cities who have worked with us through this process, however, will have taken a big step forward in making their community ready for construction by any provider.
