"The Wire" vs "Smile, You're Under Arrest"

How can cultural elitists like ourselves put TV in the Culture category? Well, where the hell else is it going to fit?

I have to also recommend the companion book about the Wire, "The Wire: Truth Be Told". It only covers up through season 3 I believe but there's tons of quality stuff in there, including stories about the real-life people that inspired the characters. I particularly enjoyed the section about Melvin Williams who played the deacon.

Yes, read David Simon's books again. Now that you've seen so much of his stuff fleshed out on TV, you will recognize a lot of it in the books.

My imagination picturing those scenes many years ago was completely trumped by watching many of them on TV. You'll get a whole different perspective now......

It was great fun recognizing the scenes as they unfolded in Homicide, then The Wire, and The Corner.

I don't watch much TV, but I have seen every single episode of these three compelling dramas. Glad to see that Walter likes his stuff, too.
