Out with JT Whitney and in with... What?

Where are you eating and what do you think? What's opening, closing, succeeding, failing?

Out with JT Whitney and in with... What?

Postby Parintachin » Tue Oct 13, 2009 10:24 am

Anybody lay a hairy eyeball on what is going in to replace JT Whitney? I saw a full industrial dumpster parked behind the place and a crew going around, patching up the rock on the front of the place. Something is afoot for that venue.

Whofor hath the skinny?

Another outlet for The Vintage, I believe.

According to MBR, they're going to continue brewing operations with a new brewmaster: http://www.madisonbeerreview.com/2009/10/almost-forgot-jt-whitneys-has-new.html.

I've been to the University Ave Vintage a dozen or so times over the last few years and I always liked it well enough. I think the last time I was there would have been in the spring, and I'm pretty sure they were running a special on Stone Arrogant Bastard. It was a nice place to sit outside. I don't know how well their University Ave location would necessarily match up with the old JT's but I'm still happy someone's going in at that location.

What days have you seen workers there? I've been meaning to stop by to pick up my old JT's mug, but every time I've gone past it's been empty.

Saturday the 3rd twas the day.

I want my mug to. I can only imagine how lonely it's been getting. I hope they keep the mug club going.

As a resident of that part of town, here are my wishes for the space:

- A good burger
- Plenty of appetizers, both risky and traditional
- Good beer
- The ability to sit at the bar on a Saturday afternoon consuming a burger and beer and watch a basketball game on a human scale TV.

Ms Vilas only requests that they continue to serve the raspberry ribs, continuing the tradition established by the last several restaurant/bars at that location.

This is very good news. JT's was my local pub for grading papers, and I really liked their bluegill dinner.

And here's another vote for continuing the mug club.

Took a swing by the parking lot the other day. They are in full remodel mode. The bar is down to the frame and it looked like they were taking the flooring up.

Attention Mug Club Members: There is a handmade sign in the front window saying approx: "Looking for your mug? Stop in, we have it!"

Nobody was home when I was there but I shall use this as a chance to snoop around.

I do hope this place is good. I realized recently I don't have a bar with good bar food anymore. I divide my time betwixt Drakenburg's and the Malt House, neither of which offers any decent food. I need a good bar burger.

Try Bennets or Monkey Shines for a burger. Its been awhile but they both had good ones 5-6 years ago.

I stopped by last week and picked up my old mug. The new owners have all of them boxed up and I was told that they're planning on hanging on to them until after the opening, which will be December 2nd. The place is still in the midst of the remodel, but they have replaced the flooring with new tile and it appeared the paneling had been removed.

Don't you have that at Babe's just down the street? Or at most any bar in Madison? I was hoping for something a little more interesting than that.

I'm not sure you get jjoyce's list at ANY bar in Madison.

Village Green, baby!

Also: Oakcrest, perhaps minus the "risky" apps.
