Pedophilia aside this is a very sad day.

I started searching as soon as you posted that blurb from TMZ. Initially, they were the only ones who had any news on it. And they reported him dead, even though the AP story posted a few minutes later just says he was rushed to a hospital (it's a large white building with windows, but that's not important right now).

If you ask me, he died many years ago.

That's what we in the biz call "A Joke".

The SO and I were just talking about him a day or two ago. What would he have been if he hadn't become...whatever he became?, we asked. What's done is done, the dude had an amazing gift, often squandered.

The King? WTF?
Are you talking bout Elvis Costello? Or that earlier Elvis? The latter is long dead. The former, too clever.

There's a certain moronic vindication to be had in that the stupid Ayatollahs and the atomic-weapons-threatening Kim-Jong Il all have to take a back seat to the Michael Jackson story. Somehow the priority of it all just feels right.
I swear, I'm not trying to be ironic.

Let's get our appellations rights.

Jackson was the Prince of Pop

Elvis was the King

Clapton is God

Paul is Lord

John is Dead

George will be reincarnated as...?

I thought Paul was the Walrus.

And Elvis was the King of Rock and Roll. Michael Jackson ruled over a different bailiwick.

James Brown is the Godfather of Soul, but the TDP photobar tells me that Otis Redding was indeed the King of Soul.

Even though he became the epitome of creepy later in life, he produced some unbelievable music, videos, and performances in general starting in the mid-1960s.

We are the same age, so I grew up with Michael Jackson. When I heard of his death and started reading, listening to and seeing some of his earlier work, it brought back many memories. When he was a little-kid pop sensation, I was listening to the Jackson Five. His dance music was when I was going out to dance clubs and watching MTV (when it still showed music videos.) A boyfriend gave me a mix tape with a good portion of Michael Jackson music. It was good stuff.

Too bad he became so weird that some people will only remember that last freak, instead of the talented performer.
