What a champ. Here's betting he doesn't last his full term.
I don't know how he avoids resigning as Governor. From the sound of it, he's willing to give up as the chairman of the Republican Governor's (sic) Association but not willing to give up as the Governor. But let's consider this... you disappear for a week as the Chief Executive of a State, pass off a phony story about being distraught over stimulus money (which conservatives have been praising him for) get caught in two lies about where you were and what you were doing and then try to invoke "God's law" when you finally fess up. You didn't just make yourself look like a fool, you made conservativism itself look foolish, both in getting caught after posing as a "family values" conservative and then shilling that ridiculous story about the stimulus spending prompting your trip into the wilderness.
He's not just a liar and a hypocrite, he played his most important constituency for a bunch of fools. They'll make him resign and it's not like he can turn to moderates to save him. No one is going to bat for this guy.
