Mrs. Tarantino: Are you the police?

Elwood: No ma'am. We're musicians.

"Tucker McElroy, lead singer and driver of the Winnebago."

With a film like Blues Brothers, it's hard to know where to begin. Harder still to stop.

"Who wants an orange whip? Orange whip? Orange whip?"

(Routinely cited by my friends and me when it's time to order another round of drinks.)

Yeah, if I had an orange whip for every time I've recited that line, I'd be Ted Kennedy.

Musicians love that movie. It tells many truths about gigging, some painful, some sublime.

Jake: "You traded the Bluesmobile for this?!"
Elwood: "No. For a microphone."
Jake: "For a microphone?! (pause) OK, I can see that."

(I'm done hogging your thread now. Thanks, Kenneth.)

"We're on a mission from God!"

"Don't you blaspheme!"

"Illinois Nazis! I hate Illinois Nazis!"

"We have both kinds of music: Country and Western!"

As far as I'm concerned, perhaps the best line for life

"No I didn't. Honest... I ran out of gas. I, I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from out of town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake. A terrible flood. Locusts. IT WASN'T MY FAULT, I SWEAR TO GOD."

I never saw Belushi and regret not driving to the Rosemont in 80 or 81 to see them live then. I did go to the HOB Chicago grand opening in 97. The tickets were completely sold out of course, Saturday was private invite only, Sunday the sold 200 or so tickets to the public. So without a real hope for tickets, I went anyway. The tickets were lamanates on lanyards! Sat. the private party, the place was hopping got there around 10p. I see all kinds of people coming and going so I got bold and start asking people who were leaving if I could have the lanyard. It took a hour or so and I got a press pass. Got inside it is open bar and the Blues Brothers band just started with many special guests. I saw and got a nod from Richard Branson probably saw right through me that I was out of my element but he smiled. John Landis was carrying the show poster from that night when I saw him. While I was out side I met John Belushi's cousin who was just hanging out soaking it in a little teary eyed his cuz wasn't there. It was great and that was Sat. Sunday I got in even earlier 10pm using the ain't to proud to beg theory, for the Blues Bros and James Brown. It was also a open bar night by the time JB got on stage there was room on the dance floor it was quite a time. Out of pocket was less the $100 food and posters for the weekend. The movie is so full of lines that are memorable it is my fave. Now find one line from the horrible BB2K movie that you can remember, you are challenged I bet, I can't.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses. - Elwood
