Dumb question, but worth asking: The machine is out of warranty?

Milwaukee PC
1785 Thierer Road
Madison, WI 53704
Phone: (608) 240-9414

http://milwaukeepc.com/ViewLocation.asp?StoreID=24

I've never had a pc serviced there, but I have a friend who buys parts there and he says they are good. If they can't help you, they may know somebody who could.

ByteSize Solutions East
205 Cottage Grove Rd.
Madison, WI 53716
(608) 222-5450

Cottage Grove Rd at Monona Dr, in the storefronts just past the Jade Monkey. They've always helped me at a reasonable cost, and have been in business for years.

ByteSize Solutions West
6236 University Ave.
Middleton, WI 53562
(608) 238-3000

I have not used their west side branch, but here it is.

I've used Milwaukee PC. They were straightforward, knowledgable and reasonably priced.

I'll hop on this thread just to conserve space.

I have a Sony Vaio that took a digger. It's been replaced, but the Apple guys couldn't pull any data off the HD (the thing won't boot up anymore).

Will the places mentioned above be able to work magic the Apple geniuses could not? Any other recommendations, preferably not too 'spensive?

Data recovery in general is very expensive but as long as there's nothing physically wrong with the drive it should be easy enough to pop it into something that works and do your transfer.
