Deli Delicious: Northside/Westport: excellent.

Postby ICU » Wed Aug 13, 2008 12:59 am

Deli Delicious is one of Madison's hidden gems. It is located in a strip mall on County M near Hwy. 113, on the North Side, in Westport. It's run by a friendly guy, Darren, who is there every day. It's open 11-7 Monday through Saturday (til 8 on Friday).

It's a small place (mostly takeout) with a simple menu: really good sandwiches, and really good home-cooked takeout dinners, and cheap. There is a different dinner special every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday night 4-7 (be sure to pick up a monthly calendar/menu), baked cod on Wednesday night, a fish fry on Friday night, and prime rib on Saturday night.

Some highlights:

-sandwiches: grilled turkey club w/1000 island, BBQ chicken, BBQ pork, tomato grilled cheese, create your own.

(the sandwiches come with their homemade potato chips, which are delicious, and are seasoned with Johnny Velvet bloody Mary seasoning)

-takeout dinners: tater tot casserole, meat loaf, pork roast, lasagna, roast beef, butterfly shrimp on Friday.

-macaroni salad, snickerdoodle cookies, Baumeister cherry soda, and other delights.

Anyone been?

Thanks for the suggestion. This place is not too far from my home and I didn't even know it existed. I think I'll give it a try in the next few days and get back to you.

Thanks again!

I've driven by the place 100's of times, but I never thought to stop in - something about Westport strip malls has never inspired confidence. Thanks for the info.

I'm happy to see that A to Z review of Deli Delicious.

I agree, that strip mall doesn't inspire much confidence. Although the apartments above seem nice.

Deli D's tater tot casserole- mmm.

Darren's best, IMO:

- Tater-tot casserole
- The aforementioned turkey/1000 Island sandwich
- Macaroni salad

Oh, and the apartments above and behind the Deli are very nice.

I went there for a quick takeout lunch yesterday. I had the Turkey and gravy sandwich with pepperjack cheese and a side of homemade chips. The sandwich was very good...and huge...and $5. I was very happy with the experience. The owner is really a nice dude too. I will be back often.
