The Angelic is closed

Postby Drinkslinger » Wed Jul 02, 2008 10:22 pm

The Angelic Brewing Co in downtown Madison closed its doors today and fired all the staff. While it was no secret it would not renew its lease, it was a surprise it closed so fast. It did not renew its liqour lic ( July 1st) and thus closed.

It was a great bar, but the heart and soul left when they stopped brewing their own beer.

The Ale Asylum lives, but the Angelic is dead.

I had some great times there, but haven't been there since they stopped brewing.
So I agree - it lost something when the beer all came from the outside.

In that the Angelic is (was) owned by the same family that owns Johnsonville brats, maybe with the WMC connection and being in Madison, they saw the writing on the wall.

Johnsonville Brats used that place as a way to hide profits, or something shady like that. I'll agree that it lost its soul when the brewery left. It went from a brewpub to a bar with no reason to exist. It had sorority sluts puking in the bathroom and fucking randos against pillars on the weekend evenings and a guaranteed packed patio of smokers on Tuesdays. I know a bunch of the bartenders and I hope they either move on to bigger and better things or find quick employment anywhere else. I think it was fairly well known that the place was going under sooner than later. I can't imagine what's gonna go in there.

Maybe this signals the return of Madhatters.

I concur. Their food was really bad.

Food aside, it really got me started on microbrews. Back in 95, at the Taste of Madison, they weren't allowed to sell their beer (nor was New Glarus). So, they gave away free samples. My wife and I kept coming back for the stout.

Glad we can still get it at Ale Asylum.

wow, I have mixed feelings, but really, I wasn't to fond of the place. I ate there once and it wasn't really memorable food and I've spent a handful of nights there, but with the same experience. Hopefully something better can come out of it. Its one of the bigger spots in town.

For sure. If Lake Louie opened a brewpub there, they would frickin' print money.

Ale Asylum should buy it or lease it to expand their brewing capacity.

That would be ironic, wouldn't it?
