LOST

How can cultural elitists like ourselves put TV in the Culture category? Well, where the hell else is it going to fit?

Opinion on Lost?

This show is a sign that the TV show as an art form is not dead.

The budget seems lacking all of a sudden. Special effects are looking more obvious, whereas I thought they had some really spectular stuff in the past.

The soap-opera parts are getting to me now. I am not as enamored of the Oceanic 6 retelling/catchup as I have been in the past of reveals they have done and then the inevitable storytelling that links where you are today with where you were last week - which was actually 6 weeks in the future.

Maybe there are fewer meta-mysteries? I don't know. Maybe the show is losing me, but I don't care why Jack and Kate don't get along, or why Jack shouldn't be raising his brother. Jack and Kate are very different people, and I'm not sure that he should be raising him either given his proclivity for pills. Now that they're off the island, what's to keep them together?

I guess the best part of it for me was realizing they were going to go back to the island. Most of them are more lost being found than they were being lost.

And I don't think Jin is dead.

I could care less about the soapy stuff myself. Jack episodes tend to bore me to tears. Sawyer didn't get a spotlight this season, but even though he's involved in the soapy stories, he remained interesting throughout.

But if they go all mythology and no soap then you get bored of the procedural mystery/solution pace. Its a science fiction show, but having more than just space marines and scientists makes better than most sci-fi. If that means some dumb Jack Tattoo ep once in a while, so be it.

I know this isn't a "theories thread" but my wife pointed out to me that Ben's hair is getting darker. I'm assuming that it's because he's getting younger...Charlotte (from the freighter) is staying on the island to "find out where she was born." For all we know, Aaron is Jack.

That's always the impression I've had.

Not that the writers of this show would ever want to misdirect their audience...

Not sure how you'd explain that, since Christian knew he was Claire's father. It's not like they were a mystery to each other; only Claire was in the dark.

Unless you're ready to bring panspermia into the discussion, I think you're overthinking the interconnectedness of the characters.

I don't think the father of Claire's baby is important, otherwise we'd know at least his name if not who he is. remember, we've got 34 episodes left and about 90 down. This is where stuff starts to fall into place.

I think Time Travel and Spacial displacement is a neat angle, but I doubt they're going to introduce something that will re-write the rules. The island is in a bubble and reality is constant outside of it. So I don't expect anything crazy to occur outside of the island.

I could be wrong, but while crazy stuff does happen off island, I'm speaking directly of time and space distortion, which so far has been localized to the island, or the result of an island act (IE, Ben in Tunisia because of the Island)

Or not paying close enough attention. You're right I was remembering incorrectly. What you described rung my bell.

I dunno. Now I want to try to incorporate panspermia into my Grand Unified Theory of LOST.

You're saying that Christian is the loophole guy? Maybe, but I doubt it.
