worst catchphrase in TV history

How can cultural elitists like ourselves put TV in the Culture category? Well, where the hell else is it going to fit?

worst catchphrase in TV history

Postby depinmad » Fri Feb 29, 2008 9:52 am

i'm looking for nominees.

the one that inspired me is from this season's project runway. the fact that it's only one word and it's used 40 times an episode and it's uttered by the most annoying little twerp ever to appear on the show all put it at the top of the heap for me:

"fierce!"

"Fierce" is about as played out as "all that and a bag of chips." I used to DJ with two extremely gay dudes who spun house back in the early 90's. They said "fierce" about 40 times an hour too... but it was 1992 and RuPaul was still a novelty. This guy sounds like he takes the cake...

"did I do that?" from Steven Urkel. hands down, the worst.

"That's hot."

Nearly every catch phrase popularized by SNL, e.g.: "Well isn't that special!"

Fixed.

Catch phrases on the whole are bad. repeat a line once in a while is fine, but a stock response included in every episode...

come to think of it, my coworkers behave like sitcom characters.

Oh come now, Henry - just picture the sock-it-to-me girl, Judy Carne, and then tell me you didn't enjoy that catchphrase at the time.

I was thinking more along the lines of Nixon saying it on Laugh In.

If I were John Amos, I'd have left that show in a hurry too.

You cited Perfect Strangers, and didn't go for "Doooan' be reeedeeeculous"?!

Impressive. Very out-of-the-box.
