Great bars in Madison

Postby Mandy » Mon Aug 13, 2007 12:00 pm

Hi

I'm from London and will be visiting Madison in late September. What bars are worth visiting? My friend and I like rock music and burgers :D

Thanks

Mandy

The High Noon on East Wash.

For music AND burgers...Harmony Bar on Atwood.

The Paradise Lounge on E. Main St. It's got the local flavor that keeps the locals coming back for more.

Also, try out...

The Crystal Corner Bar (on Williamson)
The Great Dane (I forget the street name but it's easily findable)

-nt-

PS - You may be seduced by Madison's midwestern charm and opt out of returning to London. Consider yourself warned.

PPS - I'm Cornish, which makes me an authority on these things.

East

Ale Asylum: For great USA beer.

West

Le Tigre: For the jukebox.

Downtown:

Nick's
Angelic
Plaza
Genna's
The Pub ( it might remind you of some real English pubs.)

Just some idea's from a Madison Drink Slinger.

Cheers.

What's so special about the jukebox at Le Tigre?

I haven't been there in many years. He let me pet the tiger!

within walking distance of the State capitol building--the best bar is 'Come Back Inn'. Only a block away, the Cardinal Bar might appeal to you. The Great Dane up the street is popular too, a micro brew pub--try the Pepper beer if they still have it. ;)

Check out the Memorial Union on campus also...600 Langdon St. You'll need a Student ID to buy beer, but you can get a free day pass for that right there--just say you're from out of town. Music on fridays and saturdays outside. Best hangout in Madison.

Yeah, I'd say if you want a double blessing (beer and lakeside view) Memorial Union can't be beat. Lakeside restaurants would include Paisan's, the Sardine and the Edgewater

In Robin Shepard's piece from this week's Isthmus on Madison-area brewers, there is help for you in a sidebarabout the taverns that local brewers love.

It would help if we knew a little about the person: young, old...wheels, no wheels..... staying downtown, Eastown, Westowne, or America's #1 city....

She may be English, but even the English put a limit to how far they'll walk for a pint of ale.
