Wish You Were (Still) Here

Postby O.J. » Wed Jul 18, 2007 12:26 pm

After having the umpteenth craving for Josie's sausage the other night, I got to thinking what Madison eateries I would most like to see reincarnated. Off the top of my head, my Top 3 would be Atlas Pasta, Josie's, and Tacqueria Gila Monster.
I've lived here since '84, so I know I must be forgetting a few. Any thoughts?

Ahhh - Tacqueria Gila Monster - now that was a good one!

One that is missed is Ovens of Brittany.

I only ate @ the Wild Iris once, so I wouldn't be the best source. As for Josie's, I'd have to say it was the best red sauce I've had since moving to Madison from Boston in '84

What's atlas pasta? I remember the wonderful atlas deli on monroe but I don't recall them ever having pasta. Is that the same place? Their turkey was actual turkey. It was great. Also had a mean pb&j.

(Guiltily:) Taco Grande aka "Taco Grenade". Especially after an evening's drinking.

Atlas Pasta: Carried some good shit among the pretentious pile, but utimately unnecessary.

Josie's: One rung below horrible.

Taqueria Gila Monster: If Jesus walked up to me and said, "I'll return Taqueria to you, but only if you poke me in the eye with this sharp, fatal stick, thereby damning all of humanity," I'd commence to poking.

I'd give the food one rung above horrible, but the atmosphere more than made up for it.
