I agree. That might be pretty difficult to make. What about just getting dna printed on the cake? My manager always goes to Cub Foods to get his picture printed cakes (they thoroughly enjoyed making his Lying Sack of Crap election day cake). It's probably a lot cheaper than getting a custom shaped cake, too.
I was thinking they'd start with a flat cake, trim away the parts outside the helix, then use marzipan to make the connecting strands. And yeah, it won't be cheap.
The thing is, my wife's birthday is so close to Christmas that it usually gets much less attention than it deserves. So this year I fully intend to make up for it. And it co-incides with actually having some spare cash.
So even if the cake goes $150 it's still a lot cheaper than a trip to Tiffany. ;0
