Beasts of the Southern Wild

Postby pjbogart » Fri Jan 25, 2013 12:34 am

If there were an Oscar category for "fucking awesome" or perhaps even a Nobel Prize by the same name, Benh Zeitlin would win it for the next ten years.

What a rollercoaster of emotion. Depressing, funny, hopeful, dejected, cute, sad, terrifying. I can't think of a descriptor that you couldn't attach to this movie.

Singularly the most emotionally gripping film I've seen in the past ten years. Seriously.

I saw an interview with the young actress last night. What's amazing is that she never acted before and neither did her co-star. He owned a bakery. That says a lot about the director when he can take two "armatures" and make such a riveting movie. They showed a clip when she is with her father and they both start crying in the scene. She said that everyone in the room during shooting was crying including the cameraman, and this is why the camera was shaky in that scene. Jeebus, I almost started crying and it was a 30 second clip.

This does look amazing.
