Majestic Announces Pancreatic Cancer Fundraiser at "Crazy 'Bout Swayze - Brew & View"
Citizens encouraged to support the cause and enjoy the movies
March 11, 2008:
Madison, Wis. -- What started as a satirical jab at 80's era films, has turned into a fundraiser for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. When the Majestic Theatre, in downtown Madison first scheduled "Crazy About Swayze," for Wednesday March 12, 2008, they figured that the double shot of Dirty Dancing and Road House would give patrons a light hearted laugh at an 80's era superstars expense. But with the news last week that Swayze is fighting Pancreatic Cancer, the Majestic decided that this was a great opportunity to raise money for a great cause.
All ticket proceeds will go to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network and there will be PCAN staff on hand to accept additional donations. Tickets are just $3 at the door, and the venue will open at 6:00 PM. Roadhouse starts at 7:00 PM and Dirty Dancing will begin at 9:30 PM. There will also be a "special surprise" video shown in between the films.
So please come out and have a good natured laugh at 80's hairstyles, while contributing to a very good cause.
Founded in 1999, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network is the first national advocacy organization serving the pancreatic cancer community. The organization provides public and professional education embracing the urgent need for more research, effective treatments, prevention programs and early detection methods. The ultimate goal is to find a cure.
Pancreatic cancer is the 4th leading cause of cancer death in the U.S. and has the highest mortality rate of all cancers – 99%! With no early detection methods, symptoms appear too late and the average life expectancy for a patient with a metastatic disease diagnosis is just three to six months. Despite these staggering numbers, the research spending per pancreatic cancer patient is the lowest of any leading cancer.
The Madison Affiliate of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network is a group of volunteers who work to educate the Greater Madison Community about pancreatic cancer, create awareness and provide hope to patients and families affected by this terrible disease. By partnering with the Madison Affiliate, you are helping the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network accomplish its goals and move one step closer to ensuring future generations are not faced with the same statistics.
