Worst Movie Titles

Postby Prof. Wagstaff » Fri Nov 02, 2007 12:21 pm

Perusing the movie listings last week I finally read the plot description of Gone Baby Gone. It's a drama? About a missing child? Seriously? 'Cuz that means it's one the worst movie titles in the history of cinema. I mean: Blecccch!

Other nominees:

Any movie title that starts with an "-ing" verb and ends with a proper noun. Knock it off, movie-making jerks.

I've never seen the [1964] film, but the title The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies!!? nearly comes all the way around to so-bad-it's-good territory.

Nearly.

The Hudsucker Proxy - What is a Hudsucker? sounds gross.

The Unbearable Lightness of Being - Sounds like some new-age shite.

michael clayton

i almost didn't see it cuz i figured how clever of a thriller could it be if they couldn't come up with anything other than the lead character's name.

but it was good.

Hudsucker is the name of the Company the movie is about. Not such a dumb title now now is it?

Yeah, well, the name of the company is dumb!

My vote is South Park: Bigger, Longer, Uncut. Way to make your poster tagline part of your movie's official title. It screams "we didn't think we'd be controversial enough just naming it South Park: The Movie." Same with John Grisham's The Rainmaker.

Well, here's some low-hanging fruit:

Rat Fink A Boo Boo
Eegah!
Amazing Grace and Chuck

But here's one that always bothered me:

One Good Cop (is that how many there can be at one time?)

Ps -

Despite having both Sandy Dennis and (ugh!) Cher in the cast, Come Back to the Five and Dime is actually a pretty good movie, in a bargain-basement Tennessee Williams 'truth vs. illusion' sort of way.
