I turned off part I on Netflix about a half hour in.

An awful movie regardless of where you stand politically.

Henry what part about the book did you like least?

You have read it, right????

I read Rand's essays on The Virtue of Selfishness when they came out in 1964. That told me enough about her philosophy. I didn't need to read her fiction after that.

I'll have to read that.

I've always thought the dirty secret about volunteering was selfishness - you do it because it makes you feel good.

Well, assuming it's not court ordered. But even then it probably grows on you.

All of my volunteering has been done for selfish reasons. 1, volunteering gets me out of the house. 2, I get to apply whats left of my skills and talents. And 3, people say things like "Meade, you are such a good altruistic person" which makes me feel better about myself because, in fact, I'm really not very good and I mostly only care about the welfare of people I already know.

I find it strange that Ryan is such a devotee of Ann Rand. He claims to have strong Catholic beliefs. Rand was an atheist and certainly not anywhere in the caring realm of Mother Teresa. Perhaps his beliefs would be more closely tied to Saint Matthew the Patron Saint of Money.
