Voting Irregularities

Postby spanky » Tue Nov 04, 2008 10:22 am

The significant other and I, excited to cast our votes (finally!), headed to the central library ( a highly democratic district I would assume) to "do our civic duty". We were disappointed to find that (after having marked our ballots) the voting tabulation machine was not functioning, and the ballot box was being stuffed beyond capacity through a slot without being tabulated. The “chief inspector” assured us the votes will be counted, but we have our doubts that the ballots will be handled and counted properly. We were voters 181 and 187 at about 8 am.

No more stolen elections!

Did you ask if they were planning to get it fixed today?

The (frazzled) ballot collector and the "chief inspector" said that a call had been placed to have the tabulator repaired or replaced. The "chief inspector" said there is "no way they were counting the ballots by hand". I think she meant she was very hopeful the machine would be fixed, not that if the machine wasn't fixed the ballots were going in the nearest waste bin - but who knows.

The machine was broken in ward 33, Olbrich Gardens, at 8:45 Tuesday AM too.

I also vote at the central library, and when I was there just after 9AM, everything was calm, and working fine. There was no wait and a functioning tabulator, an abundance of courteous poll workers and mellow observers. I have heard others who were there this morning say that the problems were cleared quickly.

Repaired by 9am, that is good news! Repaired within an hour of when I voted.
