GORGAR! 1st talking Pinball machine

Postby jonnygothispen » Mon Apr 20, 2015 4:32 pm

I don't know how the owner of the Pizza Cellar in Richland Center got one of these, but he had Gorgar in 1979... hours of fun. inhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctiLQQTP4tY

Here we have a 1979 Williams Gorgar pinball machine in the shop. This game has the distinction of being the first to hit the arcades with speech.

Starting a game summons Gorgar to say "GORGAR SPEAKS!". The other 5 words that Gorgar can say are "me, you, beat, hurt and got" resulting in combinations like "Me got you", "Me hurt", "You beat Gorgar", etc.
I also really dug Mars Attacks in the 90s. What Pinball machine(s) do you remember most?

Sounds pretty rudimentary as far as digital speech goes. More like 1980s technology.

Brilliant deduction, Holmes.

Some friends of mine picked up Gorgar sometime in the mid-80s. Yeah, it was hours of fun, but it kept breaking down. We managed to fix it a bunch of times, but eventually it went beyond our ability to resuscitate it.

The Gorgar at the Pizza Cellar was in an unsupervised room, so we propped up the front legs and played all night on one quarter : )

So I had CEO training as a teenager.

Is that the same as "Black Knight 2000" or was that a sequel? "GIVE ME YOUR MONEY!!!"

Early talking video arcade games likewise were very exciting to me. There was Crazy Climber ("Oh noooooo!"), and also Gorf ("You lose, space cadet"). Even more impressive was Space Fury, featuring the intimidating cyclops with the silky voice ("So, a creature for my amusement...").
