The bike-powered phone charger.

Postby rabble » Thu Jun 03, 2010 10:07 am

Interesting that the third world is going to get one before we do. I'm going to be doing more pedaling around this summer and I wish I had one now but I can wait till next year. I'd like to do some day trips or longer where I won't have much in the way of charging facilities.

Not all that new of an idea.

They work so-so from what I've read. The best results seem to be from the ones that run off an internal hub generator rather then one of those side of the tire dynos. And even then getting a full charge seems hard to do.

Plus I've heard some nightmare stories of those "rubber bands" holding a phone on a handlebar. My bike computer uses those and moves around a lot. I doubt I'd trust a iPhone with those.

Cool idea tho' and I'm sure they'll get better with time.

The more I think about it I'd love to see a way for a bike like the Trek Belleville to be able to charge gadgets while it's not running it's lights.

I've got a bit of man crush on the Belleville as it is.
