Geez, no need to read the rest of this post. Sony hasn't done anything well since the Walkman.

And that includes their $25 million acquistion of Aerosmith.

I beg to differ. Playstation was one of the major revolutionary forces in gaming. Sega is long gone in system making, Nintendo had to work to one up them and still lags behind, and who the hell remembers 3DO? They may not have the best graphics (I hold that Xbox is takes the crown for that one), they may not have the best 4-player games (Gamecube) but they sure as hell come out with tons of games that are of a higher calibur more frequently than the other systems.

Oh, and there's that purchase they did of one of the number one music creation programs, Madison based Sonic Foundry. I think they handled taking on a huge chunk of that market pretty well.

Jesus. You gamer geeks don't see the big picture.

Familiar with the 2005 Sony BMG CD copy protection scandal?

Does the word "rootkit" mean anything to you?

"Musician roster slashed": ring any bells?

How about the words "corporate graffiti?

You may not remember the racist "white is coming" ad campaign, I believe.

You may also want to google "Sony lawsuit." Grey Goods, anyone?

The batteries blow up and start shit on fire, natch.

Know anyone who works for Bleem? Not anymore, you don't.

Do you remember "David Manning," movie reviewer that liked Sony films so well? No? Well, he never existed.

How about the phrase "proprietary measures for media"--Google that, too.

These guys are corporate scum of the highest order.

And PS2 really isn't that cool.

Fuckin' geeks.

Aw, I work with Sony's Vegas Pro and DVD Architect all the time here at work. I've seen and used other video editing programs and most don't hold a candle to Sonic Foundry/Sony's.

And hey, if anyone out there has CD Architect for Windows 98 PLEASE give me holla. My basement jam-recording computer needs it bad.

For the record, I don't own a single Sony gaming device. Nothing but Nintendo, and I wouldn't call myself a "gamer geek."

I like Mario Kart. So what, you wanna fight, asshole?

All in all a lame launch. Even if I had that sort of money to spare the PS3 just isn't worth buying at this point.

I still feel sorry for those who believe that the prerendered movies seen at E3 of Killzone 2 and Motorstorm are possible on the PS3. Doesn't help that Sony didn't do anything to confirm or deny it. They'll see when the aforementioned games come and out and they only look slightly better than the PS2's last generation of games.

Oh I'm not touching that.
Sony is a mixed bag...on every level.
The only reason their video software is good is because Sony had nothing to do with it's development.
I will give them credit for developing good video cameras and equipment.

As for the hardware, game platforms, etc...they still think they run the show and consequently build the most non-userfriendly gear on the market.
Sony's not about empowering the user, they are about controlling the user and forcing them to buy more things from Sony. Too bad their CS blows.

Oh yeah, and should I mention that the PSP is a worthless brick?
Rediculous product there.

Now I hear that Sony scrapped their plans to have the PS3 run on Linux?
Can anyone confirm that?
It would be a shame.

Let me remind everyone that this is a thread about the PLAYSTATION 3, not Sony itself.

Well, maybe if that big spiel you just gave came before you saying, "Sony hasn't done anything well since the Walkman", I wouldn't have pointed out anyting they have done well. So you see, your snide, egotistical rant about the big picture has little to anything to do with your previous statement.

SONY SETTLES PAYOLA INVESTIGATION
Company Acknowledges Problems; Agrees to Sweeping Reforms

Attorney General Eliot Spitzer today announced an agreement to halt pervasive "pay-for-play" in the music industry.

Under the agreement, SONY BMG MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT, one of the world's leading record companies and owner of a number of major record labels, has agreed to stop making payments and providing expensive gifts to radio stations and their employees in return for "airplay" for the company's songs.

Nice one-foot-out-the-door cheap shot. I got your fucking Onion headline right here.

You wanna claim that I'm pro-"evil corporations" just because I have enjoyed owning Sony products, you wanna make logical leaps, fine. I've got a three story school building you can leap off of, shithead.
