I am totally going to send a link to this thread to Ron Johnson for his "Victims of Government" docudrama series.

Just a guess, but maybe the texture.

There are some things that I just don't eat. For example crackers of any kind, or Oreo cookies. I just don't like the crunchy texture in my mouth.

Weird? Yeah I suppose it is, but no help for it. And the taste has nothing to do with it, in fact I like the taste of Ritz crackers, but rarely eat one because the texture is a turn of.

Well, be sure to spell it Amuck, lest the message fall out of his comfort zone.

Johnson has what appear to be four videos up on his Government Regulation Amuck page, but they still freeze Firefox so I have no idea what is in them. If anybody else wants to review them, it could be quite entertaining.

This is best for another thread, but ...

I grew up having all kinds of aversions to textures, and my parents were fairly tolerant because I was a kid. But they were also pretty frank that this was something everybody expected to pass – just as it was understood that I wouldn't always be four feet tall.

And you know, it just did. Most kids figured it out before I did, but I figured it out. Mushrooms really weren't inherently disgusting because they were moist and slippery. Nor were oysters, which in all other regards, were radically different, anyway.

In terms of food, this is part of what it means to put childish things away. You've just got to admit that what you imagine your mouth knows is, to some degree, really just prejudice based on a lack of experience.

Buck up and sully your mouth – fully, thoroughly, and in the company of others! If afterward, you love oysters and care less for mushrooms (or the reverse), at least you'll have some real-world experience.

Unless it has something to do with Vulcan mating rituals.
