Do you sleep close or apart?

Postby narcoleptish » Fri Oct 12, 2007 12:48 pm

Many of our couple friends have gone to king-size beds. They, well the guys at least, claim they can't stand touching their partner when they sleep. I ask, what's the use of being in the same bed? My girlfriend and I could sleep on an army cot, all I want to do is touch her.

And those king-size mattresses are SO much fun when your friends ask you to help them move.

So, couples, do you touch when you sleep?

Your friends are not the norm, apparently.

Both. I want a king sized bed because the logistics of two fat cats and two people with their varied positions is difficult in a queen.

We got a king sized bed because our dogs would push us out of the queen.

King-size bed with a board separator. It folds down for special occasions.

We got a Queen. Seems like the right size, King is too big. More often than not I like my own space (wife is the same way), but for the most part once I close my eyes for the night I'm dead to the world. The wife gets pissed because she is the lightest sleeper on the planet and I am the exact opposite.

Depends on how much of an asshole I've been.

I feel that.

Dogs aside, we tend to sleep as close as the weather allows. I am a terribly warm person, whereas the SO is chilly enough to want to snuggle up pretty much year 'round. Bottom line is that my spirit is willing but my flesh is sweaty and gross.

I love my kingsize bed!
Especially with someone else because more free spirited flailing about is possible.
Sometimes, especially at the start of a relationship, cuddling and sleeping real close, spooning, is great---except for body parts falling asleep.
Just as the two become one and begin perhaps even to dream together, my arm disappears.
Hate it.
I wish there was a couples bed with strategic yet comfortable holes and slots (like a modified massage table) for arms and legs to slip into so the loveydovey close crap can continue all night!
BUT.
At some point during the night, separation has to happen. I like to sleep on my back, like a corpse, hence the eventual disengagement.

Hi

I don't really have anything to add, I'm just trying to stay ahead of Oprah in the post count race to 1000.

I don't mind the touching, except when it's hot and humid, but I do tend to mind when my wife rolls across the middle of the bed and pins me into a foot and a half of space on the edge of the bed. And then the cats come in and curl up on either side of my feet to immobilize me even more. Still, I don't think a king would fit in our room, so it's moot until we move.

After reading the above responses, I will amend my previous one slightly:

When only two of us, usually apart.

But--with two dogs and a cat sharing the bed (which they do 99% of the time) you sleep wherever you can wedge yourself in, so it's a toss-up.
