I'm 29. Personally, scruffiness doesn't do a lot for me; I think it looks better trimmed up neatly. Generally, anyhow... though I can't recall the last time I was attracted to a man with wildly unkempt facial hair.

Facial hair isn't a dealbreaker or deal-maker for me. It's just hair. Other things matter more to me, like the ability to cook for oneself and the habit of keeping one's living quarters clean.

I agree with you in some cases, but I have developed a conflicting theory on the subject. The working title of my thesis is "Men Who Stare at Themselves in Mirrors for Hours Whilst Grooming Their Facial Hair are Way Too Fucking Vain and are Hard to Take Seriously".

What do you think when you see a) the young version: the guys with the pencil line beard, or b) the older version: the guys with perfect short beards, exactly trimmed and symmetric? "Wow, that's rad!", or "Wow, what a self-inflated douchebag polisher!"

I was walking behind three young men, on the Square. They all had khakis on, blue shirts, ties, and that same no-style short haircut. Oh, and clean shaven. In my mind I was picturing them in fatigues. I guess it makes it easier to get up and get ready for work in the morning. Facial hair can be very sexy. And for special days, a little hair conditioner can soften a beard and make it feel silkier. Style should be fun, not obsession.

Why I shave

Postby Marvell » Thu Aug 02, 2007 1:20 pm

My girlfriend (yep - I'm as surprised as you) has made it abundantly clear that if I'm hoping for a little smooching my face had better be a stubble-free zone.

I have very sensitive skin, so shaving twice a day is really rough on me.

Of course, being single for six years was rougher.

Big Mike from Digibot grows one of the grooviest masses of facial fauna 'round here:

Most of the dudes I know in bands that can pull off facial hair are not really hipsters...guys like Big Mike, a couple of the fellas in the Brown Derby, etc.

Hipsters with beards are about as good as emo guys with girl jeans.

I can say that I've been beardless all of my life, though I've become increasingly hairy in all other areas.

PS - I seem to have neglected Wagstaff's beard - it's not for nothing that he goes by "Captain Beard" - his is the beard that has stood the test of time, summer, winter, etc.

A 5 O'clock shadow can be sexy, but full grown facial hair of any kind is just nasty looking, I don't care how well groomed it is.
I have to disagree. As a gay man, I prefer guys with beards. I think indie/hipster bearded guys are extremely attractive.

This winter, I plan to unveil the corporate rock beard.

It will attract women who love money. Jokes on them....I don't have any.

This sounds like a potential hit reality TV show for NBC.
