It's Just Wrong.

For those of you who have flown (or picked up/dropped off friends) through O'Hare, you know that if you drive or bus, there is a passage way under the street to the main terminal and usually a person playing music by the doors to the main area.

Today, entering the vestibule I heard the familiar strains of a Gordon Lightfoot song. With a performer trying to sound emotive and Dylanesque (failing on both counts), he actually believed that singing "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" was appropriate for people entering a freaking airport!

Maybe he got tired of, If You Could Read My Mind!

I know I am.

I've been to and through O'Hare a zillion times, to meet family or help out my Boeing father-in-law. We all believe in travelin' light and do everything on the lower level.

I think the "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" would be more inappropriate for people getting on a cruise ship or a ferry. Or maybe the song from "Titanic."

Now as far as inappropriate for an airport, I would have to say maybe "Leavin' on a Jet Plane" seeing as how John Denver died in a plane crash. Or maybe "American Pie"......

Or perhaps a nice Buddy Holly/Richie Valens/Jim Croce/Stevie Ray Vaughan/Lynyrd Skynyrd medley.

As I was boarding a plane in Heathrow London, they were playing "Don't Fear The Reaper" over the airport speakers. I was wondering why they had that in the rotation.

Right. You'd think they could pull out the filter that Clear Channel used after 9/11 and reset the terms for air travel/untimely death.
