If it doesn't fit anywhere else, it fits here

being a recently graduated student from University of Wisconsin and a native of central wisconsin, i do not believe sconnie is a demeaning term. It is used as an enduring term by most and if you think its demeaning it sort of means you do not embrace some of the greatest things about wisconsin.

Sure there is the Sconnie v. Coastie debate that goes on in Madison, but it is all in good fun and all the articles about the word "sconnie" describe the pride one gets by being from the greatest state in the union.

Those that don't like it just prolly don't understand it.

And what are those? The necessity to attack everything you don't understand?

As for Brown Deer and Whitefish Bay not being "sconnie," it's true that they don't qualify nearly as much as, say, Green Bay or Baraboo or Mukwanago, but all my pals from around there represent as proudly as anyone. They're often found sporting Brewers hats (even in the lean years), drinking MGD out of cans, longing for a decent brat or fish fry and pronouncing "boat" the sconnie way.

yay or nay? what's your opinion of the newest colloquialism for Wisconsinite?

I view it as a contrived new slang invented to sell cheap t-shirts. I don't like it.
