Not only are members of the military going without their paychecks during this shutdown, if nothing is settled by Sunday evening our overseas soldiers & sailors won't be able to watch the NFL playoffs.

Yes, I know watching a game is a little thing but when overseas and away from friends & family the little things mean a lot.

And the White House is trying to blame this on the Democratics...which is even lamer than their usual lame. They GOP controls both houses of Congress - this is all on them.

Mitch McConnell "scuttled efforts" by Claire McCaskill to fund the military through the shutdown. Paragraph 7:

And from this, two posters concluded I am siding with the Republicans.

Not sure how that works.

Wow, if the bill had come up anytime in the last 2 months it would have passed with 90%+ support from both the Senate and Congress. But the Republicans didn't do that. They kept the poor peoples health insurance as a bargaining chip. And now you say it is the Democrats that don't care.

For someone who posts like they are so informed your post above makes no sense.

No where in my post did I say you side with the Republicans. What makes no sense to me is that the Rs have held CHIP hostage for months and now you are mad at the Ds are not allowing the Rs to use the CHIP program as leverage to make them sign a deal.

NOAA is shut down.

"The federal government is currently shutdown. NOAA.gov and many associated websites are unavailable while others remain live but not supported.

Specific NOAA websites necessary to protect lives and property are operational and will be maintained. See Weather.gov for critical weather information. Visit Commerce.gov to learn more about the shutdown.

It appears the Democrats accepted essentially the same deal today they rejected Friday.

Oh, except this one has personal promises from Mitch McConnell to negotiate DACA.

And if you can’t trust Mitch McM, who can you trust?

Please someone explain to me why this was a bad deal Friday but a great deal Monday. I am clearly too stupid to understand.

Not too stupid, just too attached to your position.

McConnell making a public commitment on the Senate floor to take up legislation addressing DACA will either increase the likelihood that it'll happen, OR give Dems a lot more justification to stand tough on a shutdown in Feb if McConnell renegs.

True, and in addition to that, over the weekend it was starting to appear that the Democrats were starting to lose the blame game. I don't think it was right or fair since the problem was really Trump, but that sort of thing no longer matters.

Silly me.

Here I thought this was just a small bone thrown by Mitch McConnell so Schumer could save face.

Even sillier are the Republican and alt-right web sites crowing about how they got a total victory.

I thought that absolutely nothing concrete, just a pinky promise by McConnell to have a vote somewhere down the line, wasn't that big a deal. I guess it really IS something significant. Schumer won Bigly! YUGE victory!

Neither the wall or DACA were in the bill that the Dems refused.

Are either of them in the actual bill the Democrats approved?

Or did they just get a pinky promise from McConnell to have a vote sometime?

Does McConnell's pinky promise force Paul Ryan to allow a vote in the House?
Does McConnell's pinky promise force Trump to sign whatever bill the Senate passes?

I haven't seen the actual bill voted on.

They were supposed to be. Democratic and Republican senators crafted a compromise that Trump agreed to. Within a few hours after the meeting, someone else got to Trump and he changed his mind.
I hope this lesson has been learned. The word of the President of the United States can't be relied on.

Trump dishonest?

Who'd ever imagine that!

Maybe anyone who's ever done business with Trump over the decades. There is a reason he had to get his funding from Russia.

I think he'll allow a vote in the Senate, since he said so publicly. But that doesn't mean that the House would pass it or the President will sign it. So it's pretty much a symbolic gesture anyway.
