Although it has become overly dependent for its funding upon major defense contractors and other questionable entities both public and private, and is overly deferential, in terms of programming, to some very stupid British "crime shows," PBS fulfills a number of important educational and cultural functions, especially to those millions of Americans who remain "offline." The Trump Regime proposes to spend upwards of $54 billion on the bloated Pentagon. In sharp contrast, maintaining the CPB's current miserly level of funding hardly represents an undue burden for the average American taxpayer. And PBS Kids!?! C'mon, you stingy, mean-spirited Congressional Republican troglodytes - fork over the dough.

Retired U.S. Army general makes a plea to save PBS, says it makes us ‘smarter, stronger, safer’ ... bbing-tape

"Retired U.S. Army General Stanley McChrystal is speaking out to save PBS. In an op-ed in the New York Times, McChrystal says “Public broadcasting makes our nation smarter, stronger and, yes, safer.”

I like to say that leadership is a choice. As our leaders in Washington confront tough decisions about our budget priorities, I urge them to continue federal funding for public broadcasting. Public broadcasting makes our nation smarter, stronger and, yes, safer. It’s a small public investment that pays huge dividends for Americans. And it shouldn’t be pitted against spending more on improving our military. That’s a false choice."
