A C- for effort, but a poll that isn't a month old would be great.

A Pew research poll says only 23% support "making it fail".

Unclear how many of those would support "making it fail, even if it means shutting down the government, or defaulting on our loans".

Could you please site a poll that's less than a week old. People minds on this apparently change daily.

I have a poll here from the future that says 164% of Americans support making it fail.

Unfortunately, I can't post a link to it because it doesn't exist yet.

Exactly. 23% support sabotaging Obamacare, 28% support shutting down the government.
23+28 = 51%!!!!!

Wisconsin's favorite reality show star has been suffering total harshness:
Rep. Sean Duffy (R-WI) fumed that Senate conservatives have "bullied" and "abused" their counterparts in the lower chamber throughout the push to defund Obamacare.

The horrible "abuse" ? being confronted with reality.

A few GOP senators had a rare moment of lucidity, and admitted that this was never going to pass.
Duffy once again hammered the likes of Cruz and Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) for acknowledging earlier this week that a continuing resolution (CR) that defunds the health care law is probably doomed in the Democratic-controlled Senate.

Oh, the humanity!

Duffy is the guy who started his House career by whining that he can barely get by on his measly six-figure taxpayer-funded salary (with health insurance).

Cleveland Clinic Administrators announced Wednesday that the health care giant will be cutting as much as $300 million from its 2014 budget, and will likely include layoffs.

CLEVELAND, Ohio-- Cleveland Clinic Chief Executive Toby Cosgrove told employees this morning that the health system may have to eliminate jobs to meet a target of cutting $330 million from its 2014 budget.

The Clinic will first offer early voluntary retirement to about 3,000 employees, who will be notified in October. It’s not clear if any further cuts in staff could be avoided if all these employees choose to retire, however.

About 60 percent of the hospital system’s costs are in labor, salaries and benefits, said spokeswoman Eileen Sheil, and “there’s only so much you can do with non-staff cost cutting.

“Healthcare reform has really changed things, and the burden of cost is going to be falling on patients,” she said. “We want to make sure we can keep care affordable.”

Nothing to see here... move along.

In other words, profit, profit, profit.

Funny how they blame health care reform, but don't give any specifics. What a convenient scapegoat for them. I wonder if Toby Cosgrove will forgo a raise this year...

Bwahahhaahaa. Of course not.

So why are the cutting $300,000,000 from there budget? Basically they are reducing by 5%.

Were they overcharging there patients and insurance providers because there were no guidelines in place on what they can charge?

If the Cleveland Clinic cuts the money and provides the same amount of care aren't they becoming more efficient in the free market system? Weren't they overcharging before?

The article states no reason for the cuts except one sentence from the clinic's spokeswoman. In fact it points out that the Cleveland Clinic had to cut $100,000,000 in 2011.

That doesn't sound like a well run clinic and the ACA may have forced them to make changes faster than they would have anyway.

Never question a spokesperson from a large corporation. Everything they speak is the truth.

Here are the 2012 audited financial statements for the Cleveland Clinic.

http://my.clevelandclinic.org/Documents ... nts-12.pdf

Total revenues grew by 6.67%
Operating Expenses grew by 8.77%

They showed a total profit of $641,793,000.

20% of the accounts receivable are not expected to be collected.
They have over $5,000,000,000 in cash, cash equivalents and investments.

They are a tax exempt organization.

Hope you didn't spend long on it because it was a total waste of time. There was no ACA in effect for 2012.

Wrong again Sandi. Tax provisions of the ACA have been in effect since 2011 and maybe before for some of the coverage aspects regarding older children being covered by their parents insurance.

I was just putting the numbers out there to show some highlights from their 2012 performance.

What does a tax exempt non-profit need with a $600,000,000+ plus profit and $5,000,000,000 is cash, cash equivalents and investments?

Are they going to expand? Are the meeting the mission of their non-profit charter? All questions I would ask the Board of Directors of the Cleveland Clinic.

I am sure there are good answers to all of the above questions but why does a non-profit need 83% of its annual revenue as reserves? When the Wisconsin legislature found out about the UW reserves they raised concerns.
