It's another hyped-up non-event promoted by the right wingers, just like Climategate and the whole Acorn nonsense.

Then you disagree with President Obama calling the IRS conduct "outrageous"? Or the new director of the IRS who said it was a breach of trust of America?

I disagree with the IRS apologizing and with Obama calling it outrageous.

I think Galoot nailed it.

What is delusional is the claim that Obama ordered the IRS to go after the Tea Party. No evidence of that. And if so, why was only one IRS office involved?

I thought it was his version of "I'm a zit--get it?"

Yeah, Nedders, we knew that.

There were two locations for one office. One location, in Washington, D.C.,is the headquarters of the IRS's Exempt Organizations (EO) function, Rulings and Agreements office. The other location, in Cincinnati, is the Determinations Unit and it is reponsible for reviewing applications as they are received to determine whether the organization qualifies for tax-exempt status. Those are the only two locations for those IRS functions, Hen V.

When applying for Tax-Free status -- aka. to be one of the "Takers" as it is often called -- an organization should not be surprised if they might have to "answer a few questions." That is what the IRS does. If Tax-Free status were "free" -- well who would we have left to be the "Makers"?

That's from here, as is the pie chart below:

Why isn't the blue part of the pie chart screaming as loud as the yellow part?

This whole thing is getting sillier and sillier, particularly when you consider two facts:

1) nobody has yet paid any taxes on the basis of these decisions; and

2) one way to find out whether an organization is political or not is to look at its donors' list. I'm getting the distinct impression withholding those donors' lists is just as important to the screaming organizations as never having to pay any taxes. Don't think we don't notice, you folks in the yellow sector. It looks a whole lot like you've got something to hide. Otherwise you'd just lay out your cards, prove your point, take your tax-free status and go home.

It's incumbent upon those who disagree with this conclusion to address the question directly and support their reasoning.

Fortunately I have plenty of worthwhile things to do while I wait.

But it is. Yellow, blue, green, orange... the entire thing screams "INAPPROPRIATE CRITERIA USED TO IDENTIFY TAX-EXEMPT APPLICATIONS FOR REVIEW". In other words: government overreach, corruption of democracy, abuse of power, unconstitutionality, and malfeasance.

Question is: why aren't you horrified by it?

I'm not going to quote him out of respect for his ignoring fans, but Meade says the yellow, orange, blue, and green sectors of the pie chart are all screaming not just the yellow and its allies.

Now I would like Meade to link us to where non-Teap, 9/12, and Patriot organizations (that is, the blue sector) are screaming about being asked to prove they should be tax-exempt. Be specific. Show us exactly who is doing the screaming and show what they said. Like, link us to the Methodists or the Lions Club or whoever you find. More than one example would be more persuasive than a single incidence.

Otherwise I'm just going to keep thinking somebody is trying to conceal his or her funding sources, and I'm going to think Meade is making stuff up again and then digging around for random web pages to back it up.

Remember, a few of us (your dwindling non-ignoring fans) are actually going to click and read your links so don't start putting out quotes that appear nowhere on the linked pages. You've played that trick one time too many.

This is actually a very good question, Snowqueen, that I too would like to see answered: What are the specific entities who fell under the category of "other", the blue slice of the pie - the pie that the Treasury Department auditors created to graphically represent applicants for whom "INAPPROPRIATE CRITERIA [WAS] USED TO IDENTIFY TAX-EXEMPT APPLICATIONS FOR REVIEW"

Translation for the ignoring fans:

Meade doesn't feel like doing the research so he's got nothin'.

Note for Meade: "criteria" is plural.
