This says more about the ignorance of the quoted Senator than it does Benghazi.

Ooohhhh, THAT's what we're worried about these days? Well then, perhaps Sen Ayotte is not the ideal individual to be expressing this concern.

Why couldn’t the greatest military in the world respond when an attack occurred almost over a seven hour period

This has already been covered over and over again. The right does not accept the testimony of military leaders and intelligence heads, they allege a broad conspiracy.

and why were there at the minimum, misstatements made and certainly misimpressions given to the American people about the nature of this attack in the immediate explanations
This is a right wing opinion, not a fact.

The White House never, ever blamed the attack on a video, as propagandists misrepresent. Ambassador Rice's comments on TV, which the right is obsessed with, did not exclude terrorism. When Obama referenced the video in later speeches, he was referring to the protests at 35 embassies around the world.

Well, that depends on how things are edited.

As a service to the low information posters, here's a timeline of events through October. Obama was inexplicably pumping the "anti-Muslim" youtube video lie as late as 9/26.

So, now you are calling Obama a liar? He said no one asked any forces to stand down. I think "no one" would include military commanders as well as state department.

Benghazi is a lot worse than Watergate. No one died because of Watergate.

Oh heck, they can keep screaming forever but there really is nothing to see, no scandal, just a series of unfortunate events (not unlike the eight years of Bush presidency)

Much like the four year old who will continue to scream forever about the lost binky. You may be able to distract them with something else for a few minutes, but as soon as they get tired or crabby it's right back to screaming for the binky again.

Just a reality check: Four people died in Benghazi. Benghazi, not Belgium, not even Tripoli. This was a remote outpost in the throes of postwar chaos. It was not an embassy, it was a regional office, an insanely dangerous assignment. The ambassador and his staff were very brave and dedicated for being there at all.

The fact that one of the many heavily-armed, roving militias was able to lob missles into this site is unsurprising.

The talk of additional security is borderline silly. Another 50 marines would be insufficient to provide anything approaching "security" in an ungoverned city awash with heavy weapons. There was never any request or suggestion made that would have made much difference.

Oh, and BTW, what the hell were jet fighters supposed to do in this situation? I keep hearing right wing kooks talk about jet fighters an hour flight away. You think Jet fighters are going to spot and target mortars in a chaotic, urban setting?

If you are looking for a scandal, look at the political decision to allow the consulate in Benghazi to exist at all. Make no mistake about it, Ambassador Stevens was a zealot and a risk taker. He was very popular in Libya for his willingness to bravely attend social events out in the community.

Ambassador Stevens was the new Lawrence of Arabia.

The right wing's attempt to turn this into a watergate-style scandal of corruption has gone nowhere, is heading nowhere. We are looking at mistakes, not abuse of power. Unless you believe that a string of 30 upper military, intelligence and government officials who have already testified are cooperating in a conspiracy. Yes, maybe that is the theory.

It's really funny that all these anti-government types are shocked, shocked, shocked that a government bureaucracy could be found to not function as a well-oiled machine.

If they're sooooooo conceeeeerned about an incident involving loss of life and injuries, why aren't they up in arms about what happened in West, Texas?
