If your heart is not a living organism, is it dead?
No.

Ever heard of a false dichotomy?

If a tree farts in the woods and no one is around, did it actually happen? Whoa man, this shit is heavy.

And yes, trees do fart.

So here's a little tidbit I just learned:

Iran.

Yes, Iran-- hated enemy of the United States and freedom in general, embodiment of all things evil, according to U.S. conservatives. The country that just effectively prohibited women from attending college. (Time to step up your game, GOP.)

Iran has an abortion policy more liberal than what the Republican Party just adopted (once again) in their official platform.

In 2005, the Legal Medicine Organization of Iran created a list of 29 fetal problems and 32 maternal issues in pregnancy that indicated that abortion might possibly be legal—only if, however, it was determined that the life of the mother and the fetus were both endangered if the pregnancy went through, and that the mother could be saved by an abortion. Ayatollah Ali Khameini issued a fatwa to this effect, allowing abortion in the first trimester for these special cases.

You guys are really over-thinking this. Do the anti-abortion people think about this stuff? Apparently not.

Interesting that you set "competent" as a benchmark and then proceed to describe scenarios whereby people hack off their own limbs, either for pleasure or to eat. Do those actions sound like something a "competent" person would do or would you interpret them (as any medical professional would) as indicators of mental disease?

Exactly. The question should be not when does life begin but when does personhood begin. And from the great and venerable philosopher Wack Wack we know that that doesn't occur until the nonhuman unperson gulps his first breath of air.

Thanks. I hadn't seen that one yet. I like the fact that some of these people have been part of the "movement" for years, but never thought about it.

Henry V, you are a liar.

So you are against laws/constitutional amendments that restrict a woman's choice to control her own body? You have ignored me when I asked such questions of you in the past. Please clearly state your views on abortion and the law.

Bump.

You called me a liar, yet you refuse to state your beliefs on abortion and the law.

Great tactic. Can't come up with anything? Call the other guy a liar and you don't have to!

I didn't know moderates were using the republican playbook.

Ah, you made an Offering of Diet Coke to the Ineffable--and the universe responded with a new keyboard. I listen and I learn!
