This is not the only place I've seen this comment re Hilary in 2016. I've also seen it over and over and over again over the past 50 or so years that I have followed politics. That is the idea that being VP gives one an advantage in running for president.
I have never understood this thinking, especially by people who should know better.
In the history of the US we have had 2 sitting VPs run and win the presidency. Most recently Bush.
We have had several who have served as VP sit out a term or 2 and go on to win the presidency. Nixon is one example. I think he is the only example in the last 112 years.
In Caro's latest volume on LBJ he does point out one of the primary reasons why he accepted the VP nomination. 1 in 5 of all presidents had died in office. LBJ thought that he had a statistical chance of becoming Prez by Kennedy's death (He was in very poor health)
In the 20th century, the odds were even better for the VP. 1 in 3 presidents died in office.(up to 1960)
Saying that Hilary as VP would lead to her being president is really pretty ghoulish. Not saying that of you, of course, I doubt most people even think about the numbers on this.
