Ron Johnson fighting for Freedom--of business profits

Johnson says employers should be able to deny health insurance coverage to cancer patients because: Our Nation was based on Freedom.

Our Nation was based on the freedom to let sick people die in order to protect business profits? No wonder they muzzled him during his campaign. What a heartless bastard. Less Ann Rand. More Jesus. How many times have we heard Republicans refer to being loyal Christians?

Notice how the GOP is tossing the word "freedom" around. One of their new buzzwords. I say lets have less Government too. Let's fire Ron Johnson.

IF you've ever had a loved one hospitalized you'll understand how rapidly the costs escalate and why this will help PEOPLE. Health Care specialists will still make their money--believe me they'll find a way. Dean Care, St. Mary's Hospital and Humana for example are voluntarily complying with the new mandate and said they would even if the Supreme Court would have overturned the decision.

JOHNSON: They shouldn’t. Listen, our rights are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. And when we start expanding beyond that realm, when you create a right for somebody, you create an obligation for somebody else, and then you’re taking away that person’s right. And that maybe doesn’t seem all that great, but it’s just true. Our nation was based on the foundation of freedom and limited government.

So, improved access to health care does not fall under the right to life? Or have the champions of the "pre-born" so thoroughly co-opted that right that "life" now is assumed to apply only to those who don't really have one yet? Would Senator Johnson reply differently if the employer denied pre-natal coverage to a pregnant employee and her still rights-laden fetus?

Also, I'm thinking I would be very wary about ever entering into a contract of any kind with this guy, given his horror of "obligations." Whatever happened to honor and the rule of law? Johnson sounds like an angry teenager -- "I don't want to and you can't make me!" -- not a responsible citizen or businessman. If he promised health care coverage to his employees isn't he obligated to deliver it? Even if they all got cancer, or pneumonia, or pregnant (them that can)? Oh -- unless he can wiggle out of it or it interferes with his personal sense of "freedom." Who do his wage slaves think they are? Fetuses?

I would also point out that the document he's probably thinking of when he says "our rights are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" actually says that we "endowed by [our] Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness." He and a significant number of other conservatives blissfully ignore the fact that this is not meant to be an exhaustive list. Why Jefferson picked the ones he did is certainly a good question, but there is no question that he did not mean to circumscribe our rights by identifying three of them.

Addentum: Jefferson expanded Locke's "Life, Liberty and Estate" to "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

Ron Johnson?? Name sounds vaguely familiar. Wasn't he in the news a couple three years ago? Rode a wave of ignorance into a sweet government gig and then just disappeared, right?

Hey Cornbread, isn't he one of those lefse people? Flatbread fuckers..
