Ann Romney will be at the Hubbard St. Diner in Middleton tomorrow morning. Not sure exactly what time, but you can RSVP at 535-9307. I'm sure she'd love to see you.

I wonder if Food Fight okayed this. If so, sounds like Monty Schiro is more conservative than I thought.

I got the robo call as well. I'd rather say a few words to Mitt. Ann's not running for office so she shouldn't hear less than kind words.

Dianne Hesselbein greeted Romney with a stuffed dog strapped to the top of her car, a move local Republicans (known for their class if nothing else) are rapping for lack of "class."

Uh, isn't Dianne Hesselbein a local Republican?

Caryl Terrell and George Meyer: Hesselbein’s mailing is deceptive

Caryl Terrell and George Meyer | Posted: Wednesday, September 8, 2010 4:50 am

Dear Editor: We recently received a Dianne Hesselbein campaign mailing that has several false statements that the voters of the 77th district should know about.

The most blatant deception is that she “supports” the Regional Transit Authority. Dianne voted AGAINST the RTA at the County Board meeting on Nov. 5, 2009. When Dianne’s vote counted, she voted against the RTA. For Dianne now to say she “supports the RTA” is just not true.

The second deception is Dianne’s statement that her “leadership conserved” land for the Ice Age Trail. Last summer, Dianne voted AGAINST purchasing that land and the purchase failed. Dianne’s vote against the purchase certainly does not warrant her campaign statement that she “conserved this land.”

These are two reasons why we are supporting Brett Hulsey and not Dianne. Brett has a 100 percent Sierra Club voting record; and Dianne has a 78 percent voting record, one of the worst of the Madison area supervisors.

In the 77th District a candidate’s voting record on environmental and progressive issues is crucial.

George Meyer

former secretary of the state Department of Natural Resources

Caryl Terrell

former Sierra Club Chapter director

On several issues, he specifically criticized opponent Dianne Hesselbein. To illustrate her shifting positions on transportation, he brandished a piece of election literature from her campaign two years ago, in which she stated support for a county-wide vote on establishing a Regional Transit Authority. Hulsey says he was disappointed when Hesselbein ultimately voted against the RTA. "I think it's important to keep our promises," he says. He also says Hesselbein's recent support for the county's purchase of the Ice Age Trail is a flip-flop from her position against the buy last year.

Finally, he suggested that Hesselbein's concerns about the Sheriff Department's background checks on undocumented arrestees could prevent law enforcement from keeping the most dangerous criminals off of the streets. "It takes a serious crime to earn a background check," he says, pointing to statistics that show that only slightly more than 1 percent of Dane County inmates were subject to the process.

I know you're trying to make a point, bdog, I just don't know what it is.

Then what's she doing in Middleton? Checking the size of the trees?

She's not running, but she's certainly campaigning.

What is the stuffed dog meaning? I don't understand.

Here is what Hubbard Diner said on their FB page. Sounds like the repubs were told to use the library instead. Don't boycott Hubbard or Food fight.

https://www.facebook.com/HubbardAvenueDiner

"Some of our esteemed fans have asked whether or not we hosted a campaign stop for Ann Romney this morning - we did not. When they called we said she was welcome to come in and say hi to people but once we found out they had bigger ideas we asked them to host it at the library next door. We welcome everyone and endorse no one :). We do however believe in the power of pie to bring people together!"
