Ned's exactly right. Sitting around being righteous and smelly is as much a part of college as blue books and backpacks. Keep them out of the buildings and away from the kids who want to study and wait for them to get bored.

Incidentally, Blaska's source is a "story" with this headline:

Sorry Libs… The UC Davis Pepper Spray Incident Was “Standard Police Procedure”

Gateway Pundit also went big with the discredited story, widely distributed by Charlie Sykes, of "girls" (actually adult women) signing recall petitions in Milwaukee. I see no correction, clarification or retraction on Gateway Pundit.

The New Media in action! Right, Meade?

It warms your "heart" to see the middle-class roughed up by the cops? All the rest is part and parcel for your gig, but I don't think vocal loathing of the middle-class is part of the talking points yet.

Hand up here, too. Altho others on this Forum seem to think I was tear-gassed. We called it pepper spray.

And if I'm killing off this thread it is dying pretty hard. It's up to 136 now and the "No Guns" signs, not "Help Wanted" signs is at 248 where jonnygotsapin postulates that the 2nd Amendment doesn't cover firearms.

Yeah, you guys can keep your mutual love/gun notes in that thread.

This thread persists mainly because of how incredulous many of us are about this inability to recognize the UC-Davis event for what it is: Abuse of power, gift to the occupy protests and opportunity to address the use of this particular chemical agent in these types of events.

I love it! At least someone has a sense of humor on this Forum! Please tell me he's spraying Roundup for the creeping charlie.

You guys got "gassed" in the "60's" and you called it "pepper spray?" How do you "reconcile" that with the earliest known use of pepper spray to be 1973?

I'm going to go with the swiftboaters defense: "You'll just have to take my word for it."

It was only called tear gas back in the day, (except by the military who called it CS).

The students were deliberately refusing a verbal police order, right?

Did their refusal escalate the situation? Is it defensible?

I think so.
Meade wrote:Did their refusal escalate the situation?

No.
Meade wrote:Is it defensible?

Yes.

I would also like to point out that while Blaska is making a large point out of the fact that HIS group of protestors expected to get gassed with whatever it was they were gassing people with in those days, he is implying that they didn't complain about it, and that everyone thought it was a fine thing to do.

I don't think the police actions of the day were received as well back then as he implies they were.

Read the Amazon reviews of Defense Technology 56895 MK-9 Stream. (While they last).

You tell me. I have seen no video of a cop standing up and warning the assembled that if they didn't leave the area, they'd be sprayed at point-blank range with chemicals.

Did their refusal escalate the situation? Is it defensible?

I'm sure the cop thought it was a dare or a direct question of his authority. Again, you tell me. Does it look to you like the kids sitting there are escalating anything? What are they going to do, start pulling grass out of the ground? Draw some chalk figures on the sidewalk?

It's ridiculous on its face, Meade. The cop could have dealt with that situation in 99 other ways. He could have been an innovator, like Blaska's guy Steve Jobs.

Meade, you were asked this before but never answered. What did you do during the war (Vietnam, of course)? Were you a protester who ate tear gas (as Mr B implied he did) or did you enlist (and then ate gas as part of boot camp)? Maybe instead you had better things to do, like Dick Cheney.

Honest answer, please.

What the heck is Blaska Effect? Is it brewed right here in Dane County?

Is it the stuff that causes so many of his detractors to stumble all over themselves, sputtering through their lefty-liberal conceits while putting up links to articles with updates they evidently don't bother reading - updates that cast doubt on their own dubious arguments?

Where can I pick up a pack of this Blaska Effect?
Better yet - a case.
