Badgers vs Cornhuskers. Thoughts? Predictions?

Postby Stomach » Fri Sep 30, 2011 10:11 am

The betting line opened at WI -8 and now sits at WI -9 or -9.5

http://espn.go.com/college-football/lines

That seems too high to me. I expect the Nebraska defense to play its best game of the year and the Badger D to give up a fair amount of yards but not many touchdowns. A couple of field goals for each team as drives stall near the end zones.

31-26, Wisconsin.

(Side note to any Nebraska fans visiting Madison: Hello, welcome to Madison. Have a great time, I hope everybody here treats you well during your stay. Go out for a great meal, there are dozens of places you might enjoy. Eat a brat near the stadium before the game and enjoy several cold malt beverages, this will help you fit in around here. Please consider taking our Governor with you when you leave. Thanks a bunch!)

Wilson either has the best game of his career or cracks under the pressure (as some butthurt NC State fans seem to think he does regularly). If it's the former the Badgers win big and make a huge statement in a down year for the B1G.

The betting line is set so that bets are fairly even on both sides, because bookmakers want to minimize their potential losses. I also believe Wisconsinites gamble more often than Nebraskans.

Betting odds are not true predictors of results. I too think the final score will be close.

My prediction: there will be significant levels of chundering amongst the fans of both programs.

Also - at least one person will be called 'fag.'

You mean actually called "fag" or substituting Cornholer for Cornhusker which at least implies homosexuality?

I always thought this was the best possible collegiate disrespecting slogans, but there was never any reason to brandish one before in the Big Ten. I hope some enterprising young Badger is subsidizing his/her weekends for the next several months by selling these items.

Hank: You're right about one reason why lines are set the way they are, but it's remarkable how often the oddsmakers are dead on.

Important Big 10 games tend to be conservative, defensive, struggles. So I'm thinking Bucky will prevail 24-19, by bending but not breaking.

Everyone seems right on, this should be close. I will predict 24-17 Badgers.
The line is -10 on the "amusement only" cards found at Madison's finer establishments.
And Brewers 7-1 in a statement game.

I really feel like I am only guessing - I could see anything from a 25 point loss to a 25 point victory. I'll say the Badgers will have a hard time stopping the option early, and Nebraska will have problems with Badger receivers. Maybe 21-14 at halftime. In the second half the Badgers pick off a couple of the Nebraska quarterbacks shot put throws, and Nebraska gets a late TD. 27-24 Badgers.

Neb 23 UW 20. The red and white team will win for sure.

Nebraska
"Hail Varsity"
(Played after a touchdown)

Hail to the team!
The stadium rings as everyone sings
The Scarlet and Cream
Cheers for a victory echo our loyalty
So on mighty men!
The eyes of the land upon every hand
Are looking at you
Fight on to victory
Hail to the men of Nebraska U!

"There is No Place Like Nebraska"
(Played after the PAT)

There is no place like Nebraska
Dear old Nebraska U
Where the girls are the fairest
The boys are the squarest
Of any old place that I knew
There is no place like Nebraska
Where they're all true blue
We'll all stick together in all kinds of weather
For dear old Nebraska U.

Badgers 35-10.

And a lot of people walk out thinking "I paid $250 for that?"

Hard gear and pepper spray after the game on State Street. Bring the kids! Entertainment for ages 8 to 80!
