Do boat launch rules apply to kayaks?

Postby flarosa » Sun Aug 17, 2008 4:15 pm

Do I need a permit to launch a kayak? There is no car involved, I live near a boat launch and can walk. It's not clear to me whether the permit is for vehicles towing large boats or if it applies to anyone entering the water. Thanks!

You stick your boat launch sticker onto the inner surface of your car window. If there's no car involved, I wouldn't worry about it. But, yes, you are supposed to have the sticker if you use a CAR to launch canoe or kayak at one of the boat launches on the list.

The 2007 sticker even has a picture of a canoe as its motif.

I thought I'd use this thread to remind people that boat launches are intended to be used ONLY FOR LAUNCHING BOATS!

Not for casual lakeside drives.

Nothing irks me more than people who loop through boat launches in passenger cars without boats, just to gawk. When they get stuck behind people actually launching boats and start honking is when I start lobbing seaweed bombs.
