As a life-long Cub fan, I fully expect the spirit of Steve Bartman to come back and haunt the club come late August.

Brew Crew
Cards - 3.5
Astros - 8
Cubs - 12
Reds - 18
Bucs - 22.5

Why does everyone seem to think the Cardinals are going to revive a bit and creep back into the race? They're truly awful, and there's really not much out there they can pick up to improve. I think the cubs have the depth and the pitching to stick around. But they're the same as the Brewers - they have some players who are irreplaceable if a major injury occurs.

Brewers (90-72)
Cubs 3
Pirates 6
Astros 12
Cardinals 15
Reds 30

I agree with minicat on the Cards. They're getting worse by the day.

Useless fact of the day: The Cubs notched win #50 yesterday. In 2003, they got #50 on July 21st. On that day, they were in third place 3.5 games out.

Cubs 89-73
Brewers 89-73 (Cubs def. Brewers in 1-game playoff. Brewers get Wild Card)
Pirates 8
Cards 14
Stros 16
Reds 25

Cubs def. Dodgers
Crew def. Mets

Cubs def. Brewers in 6.

I don't know if I could take a Cubs-Brewers NLCS. Seems like some friendships would be endangered.

NL Central final standings:

Cubs.....85-77
Brewers..2
Cards....7
Astros...12
Reds.....13
Pirates..17

The Cards did ultimately come back, against most expectations. The combined powers of LaRussa and Ankiel?

From top to bottom things were tighter than I thought they would be, but I think that's because this whole division is pretty pathetic. Good luck Cubs, you'll need it...

Sawks in 5
Mohawks in 4

CoRox in 6
BoSox in 7

Manny being Manny in 6.

-- in my dreams:

Cubs in 7.

Phillies in 5.
Cubs in 4.
Red Sox in 4.
Yankees in 5.

Cubs in 7.
Red Sox in 6.

The resulting tear in the Space/Time continuum caused by the BoSox and Cubs in the World Series together will cancel this and all future WS's.

In other words, you can't bring yourself to make the pick you know you have to make. Heh.
