Some are obvious - police, security, physical plant, grounds maintenance (there is an insane amount of pavement to be shoveled), clinical services, animal care, etc.

Some are less so. The dorms are still open, as is the Union, so there needs to be some custodial and food service operations available.

I often say that the UW is like a battleship; you can't stop it on a dime.

Nice work (the skiing, not the falling). Did you take streets, sidewalks, paths or literally cross-country?

I left early enough that the sidewalks were just about perfect to cruise on. I popped them off once I hit State street, people had shoveled and salted pretty well by then.
