i have nothing but respect for the men and women of the united states marine corps. my ship, in fact, was named after one of your bravest- the uss cole (ddg 67). i felt disrespected by your pejorative use of the word 'girls', which is why i went with the 'jarhead' blast.

back in the day, i used to remind my marine friends that the marine corps was (is) just a department of the navy. to which they would invariably reply: "yeah- the men's department!"

OuuRah!!!!

I hereby recend my earlier "girls" remark and replace it with "pansies" as it was intended towards the good Professor and Kirk, not at our honorable female sailors and other veterans

Along that same line... whenever I heard "The Marine Corps builds men" I reply "Yeah, and the Navy enlists them".

I'll be nice and not bring up why the buttoned flap on the front of the Navy's dress blues are called the Marine Corps tablecloth.
