The First Snow of the Year!

Postby pjbogart » Mon Nov 25, 2013 10:26 am

Yeah, we got a little dusting last week, but nothing that stuck. Today we get a bit of a Christmas preview with a blanket of snow covering our great city. And we all know what that means... it's the annual "Drive-like-a-fucking-moron-who's-never-seen-snow-before" Day.

Please, slam on your brakes if you begin to slide in the slightest, because none of us remember how poorly that worked last year. And don't bother cleaning the snow off of your back windshield, because visibility is for suckers. And I hope everyone remembers that the only way to drive properly in an inch of snow is to drive at 10 mph, tapping your brakes every two seconds.

Good luck out there!

Snow is good. Lots of snow is better.

Your sarcasm is not appreciated.

May the Snow Gods ignore PJ and favor us all with an ample gift of crystallized H2O this winter. Let us see no dry ground from now until mid-April.

I wish I could have gotten that last bit of leaf raking done this year. I got most of it but time and tide conspired against me for the last cleanup.

Also, I felt very safe and smug inside a nice warm, big old bus this morning.

SNUG! I meant to say snug.

I felt snug with the seat warmers and AWD. Drive was better today than it was last week when we got a dusting. I think that was the official drive like you've never seen snow day. Of course I don't have to do the beltline. I'm sure that was fun.

Is there any money left in that airtight budget to plow?

They were out this morning putting down that brine stuff that just makes everything slicker than it would be otherwise.

Traffic on East Wash headed into town was backed up all the way to 51 this morning at about 9 am. I was headed the other direction so I don't know why, but it was slow moving.

I waited until 11 to make the drive up from the metropolitan Newville area to Madtown. As far as I could tell, the Interstate was dry, yet I counted 20 vehicles off the road, three of them semis. How bad a winter driver are you to skid off dry pavement?

I'll go ahead and guess they slid off before it dried. Like, before 11am.

Yeah well the "FREAK OUT" light was lit up on my dashboard so I did what it told me to.

I always forget to switch to boots for the first time out. Then I soak my socks and curse as I slip.

Usually knocks the sense into me to remember next time, especially if I take a digger or get shoe rot/chillblains.

And of course, someone was trying to ride their bike in the only lane left on Sherman Avenue during rush hour....I do hope that fall he/she took didn't hurt too much! We have busses with bike racks for a reason:)

Hey, it's almost winter! Are you ready for some real snow?
