It's called a block party and it happens all over the country. The block my brother lives on in MKE shuts down about 3 times a year for this. Jeebus people like to bitch and moan about some petty shit.

I've also never seen the parking lanes blocked off in town, but I have seen this done in Chicago. It happens during the winter. People will shovel out there parking spot and then block that "public" spot off. They use everything including cones, lawn chairs, rope, ribbon, you name it. I asked friends who lived there if it's legal and basically the city turns a blind eye towards it.

I've seen traffic lanes blocked off for Badgers football games. Let's get rid of those entitled bitches as well.

No kidding. Who knew!

At will barricading of streets for the use of private parties is hardly a permitted block party, that is accessible to public users. Nice spin though.

I see some random at will "block parties" in front of Brenda Konkel's house in the near future. Permit free!

instead of jumping on the bandwagon of bashing here - let me try to explain what he was saying. He would have no problem not even worrying about the blocked off part and avoiding it, if a self-righteous dbag didn't bring it upon themselves to say some jerky stuff.

It's not so much the blocking off, as it is the self-entitledness that we all encounter quite a bit in our daily lives.

You're obsession reveals itself in the most unlikely threads, Dave.

And the nerve of the city, handing out block party permits to applicants:

http://www.cityofmadison.com/specialEve ... rocess.cfm

At least 14 days prior to your block party, submit the completed application, signed petition, and appropriate nonrefundable application fee, generally $50 (payable to City Treasurer).

Click the link -- the rules are not all that complicated.

Special Madison feature: the holder of a block party permit gets to wear a sticker all day that says "entitled bitch" just to aggravate touchy little bike guys.

Sno-crone,

Like I wrote, and you ignored, that's the point. It wasn't permitted. So many assumptions, so much spin.

Any more comments from the self-righteous?

Just because.

Wesco, I know you mean well but baked goods comes here every day for his fair share of abuse and if he didn't get it... well, he might just go away forever.

>>sigh<<
I know. You're right.

Think its bad here? Try Boston:

"When snow puts parking spots at a premium, as the blizzard that just left 18 inches of snow here did, snatching someone’s marked space can lead to hurled insults, slashed tires or worse — in 2005, a man was arrested after smashing a car window with a plunger during an argument over a freshly shoveled spot.

“A lot of people around here carry screwdrivers in their trunk,” said Kim Rader, 35, who had just started digging out her Mazda and predicted it would be a two-hour job."

I also ran into this sort of thing in Denver. People basically claimed the 'spots' on the street in front of their house. They would complain if you parked in their 'spots.' It would make me laugh.

Sno-crone,

You're soooo cute. You wish you had the skills to make an effect... Only in your head. I'm glad I live rent free in there.
